During the Conversation Dr. Melanie Pope and I will discuss Coach’s responsibilities through this pandemic.

Dr Melanie Pope PhD, SFHEA (Guest)

Founder of Neos Diversity Leadership Coaching, Associate Professor at the University of Derby, Cambridge Certified Coach

Melanie has over 25 years’ experience developing people’s potential and enabling them to become all they want to be, as a teacher, lecturer, trainer, mentor and coach.  Her career has focused on helping people from diverse backgrounds to appreciate that they have no limits other than the ones they impose on themselves, and as a woman of working-class origins who was the first in her family to go to university, who is also from a minority faith group, she lives her ideals.  She has a PhD in Linguistics and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Melanie uses her extensive knowledge and experience of the university sector to coach academics from under-represented groups who are aspiring or emerging into leadership roles, so that the face of university leadership literally changes to better represent the students it serves. She understands many of the challenges faced by under-represented colleagues and takes an evidence-based approach no matter who she works with.  She coaches emerging leaders from underrepresented groups from outside the university sector by special request.

Melanie’s approach to coaching is rooted in a focus on the strengths of the individual client, supporting and developing them to recognise, appreciate and where necessary develop these, to be able to be the leaders they want to be, rather than emulating the leaders that already exist in the world.  Leadership across the globe needs to change; Melanie supports all aspiring leaders to achieve their goals, so that they can enable the dreams of others like them.
